Dear [Name of Head of Regional Adoption Agency],

Regarding the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF)

On the 17th of April this year, the Consortium of Voluntary Adoption Agencies, Adoption UK, Kinship and Coram wrote a joint open letter to Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP, Secretary of State for Education calling for changes to the ASGSF to be reconsidered and for a long-term plan for its future to be put in place.

In response, on the 8th of May, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families, Janet Daby MP stated that Regional Adoption Agencies may use their own funding to supplement the ASGSF where necessary.

Her letter included the following:

“Where needed, local authorities and regional adoption agencies can use their own funding to increase the amount of therapy if this is needed. The Local Government Finance Settlement introduced two new grants for children and family services, providing over £500 million for preventative support. This nearly doubles the previous year’s investment. The funding can prevent adopted children from returning to the care system by offering extra therapy beyond the new £3,000 limit.”

I am writing to ask whether [insert name of regional adoption agency] is in a position to provide this additional funding, and, if so, whether you plan to do so.

If the agency is not able to provide meaningful top-up funding, I would be grateful for reassurance that this is being raised with the Minister for Children and Families, the Department for Education and Adoption England.

I look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely,

[Your name]
